Care of Rabbits

Rabbits, Small Children and taking care of Rabbits

If you are thinking of getting a rabbit as a pet for your child, it will pay to assess whether or not your child is old enought to know how to handle the rabbit with care.

Small children are loud and can be unpredictable and often can cause your rabbit to have a heart attack due to stress. The also are unable to know how to handle the rabbit gently and can often either try and hug them too tight or potentially drop them if the rabbit scratches them when they don't want to be held.

Older children however, can really benefit from the responsibility of looking after a rabbit. Older children usually know how to handle animals gently and how to approach them.

As much as they look fluffy, cute and cuddly, rabbits very often do not like to be hugged. They have very sharp claws and strong back legs, and can cause some serious scratches down the arms of the unfortunate person trying to hug the rabbit. However, if the rabbit is well trained and raised closely with your family, they can learn to enjoy cuddles.
